#VOTE4PREM
by Prem Joshi

Hello friends, today I am RAMPING UP my candidacy to become the new member of parliament for Sangora's south-western district where I was born, grew up and live TO THIS DAY. Though I respect the Action Party and its leader Hasika Asuri, who is one of few HONEST women in politics today, the candidate who was selected for this seat is a CUCK who has been unwilling to call a spade a spade.

You see, dear reader, the incumbent member of parliament for my district is independent Naveen Geerthakan, who is a GAY and an ATHIEST and a SECRET MARXIST. He has been clear in the past that he is supportive of THE GAY AGENDA, and that he has a lover whom he cohabits with. This is clearly a DISGRACE, and our beautiful city is SULLIED by this SINFUL PERVERT who has put his ways upon us in this place. He also does not go to temple, and is open about this fact. He was elected by a margin of only 79 votes last time because his opponent was, allegedly, a bit of a money launderer, so the accusation goes. This was of course a FALSE accusation, as is common for lefties to make. Just because he was convicted does not mean he was guilty.

I promise, if elected, to support a Hasika Asuri-led coalition, ideally with the Communitarians - though I am not opposed to a handful of minor parties or independent being involved also, so long as none are gay. I will use my power to fight for more spending on the military, more temples, more patriarchy and fewer homos.

Election results. Above, popular vote share; below, number of seats.

After months of contentious campaigning, the results have came in for the 4764 Vascanian federal election. Of 751 seats in the parliament, the Progressive Alliance has captured the plurality with 233, a loss of 41 seats from what the party - led by Prime Minister Subhas Luitail - held before the election. Their historic opponents, the Action Party won 202 under the leadership of Hasika Asuri. This is a net loss of 14, with heavy regional variances in net change for the right-wing group. These results are, however, not what has people talking this morning.

The results for the major parties were overshadowed by a dramatic surge in support for the hard-left Socialists, led by former union leader Faran Cunnarillat. They won 184 seats and took a quarter of the vote, an increase of 112 from the last election. Their success was solidified by astonishing figures in Bhaporistan, Utsal, Zaqrandi Pradesh and Hamal Pradesh - all states that they won by large margins with over 38% of the vote in each. Their gains primarily came at the expense of the Progressives' urban wing, which fell apart in cities like Kamalata, Ajuna and Sabuda - though some of these losses were made up for in affluent areas like Kayal Island.

The Communitarian Party failed to pass the 100 seat mark they set as their target, going from 84 to 98 thanks to gains in the small, industrial towns of interior Kalkalistan. The Agrarians and United Regional Group completely collapsed, winning less than 30 seats between them and being abandoned by their traditional voter bases in rural Khond and Rajavant. Indepedents also had a difficult night, reducing in number from 24 to 10 - though the night provided much joy to a certain Prem Joshi, a right-wing social commentator who decisively beat an openly gay, socially-liberal candidate in a wealthy Sangora suburb.

The Vascanian Empire is one of the world's most populous and expansive states, and as such results have varied from region to region. Here, Vascania News' election team will run through the results in the four geographical quarters of our nation, with an emphasis on key race results and the narratives to come out of a truly historic night.

Vanakalam

Image
Vote shares in Kalam Nadu and Avidangana.

The northern coast of Vanakalam was a key target-zone for the Progressive Alliance, as wages and living standards in the area have increased significantly under Subhas Luitail's premiership. Indeed, the region gave some solace to the alliance on an otherwise underwhelming night. The campaign here was devoted to environmental issues and emphasising economic growth, which resulted in an 8% swing to the PA in certain, coastal council areas.

Sathush Suvanan narrowly held on for the Action Party in the key seat of Abalya, but Vrishin Perepa was defeated by rising centre-left star Jap Mantha in Adharsha. In his victory speach, Jap said his victory was as a direct result to getting the votes of dock workers involved in the new naval construction contracts. Overall, the region was won narrowly by the centre-left for the first time ever, though the Socialists did make a few gains in urban Thikkonagama from more moderate parties.

One of the key races that gained national attention was the battle between moderate independent Naveen Geerthakan and Prem Joshi, an infamous contributor of the conservative Sangora Post. Prem swept Naveen away in a blowout 20 point victory after a campaign emphasising Naveen's personal immorality as a homosexual and his atheism, though all major parties disavowed his campaign as counter to what Vascania is about in the modern era.

Eastern Kalkalistan

Image
Vote shares in Rajuttistan, Hamal Pradesh and Zaqrandi Pradesh.

The national capital, Kamalata, was targeted fanatically by the Socialists and provided the first sign of a massive far-left surge when rising party star Aaliya Kamal demolished Progressive Anil Divakar by over 40 points in the ultra-urban seat of Kamalata Centre. The 'left behinds' who felt victimised by the gentrification brought about by federal policies swung so dramatically towards the leftists that Vascania News' swing-o-meter broke on the election night results show. This was yet another blood-letting for the Progressives in their traditional heartlands, even though the urban poor had stuck behind the PM for a while after his fall in seats last election.

Socialist Amish Kapadia defeated Progressive incumbent Dhani Upasani in Kamalata Bhatarshi, while some election analysts have suggested up to 6 regional list seats were decided just by the margins in the inner capital city. This was complimented in the north by a surge in support for the Socialists in Zaqrandi Pradesh - who performed well among Ahmadi voters - as well as in the south, where Hamal Pradesh went 38% for the Socialists and granted them seven of their eleven constituency seats and another one on the regional list for good luck.

Kayal Island, perhaps the pinnacle of the 'New Vascania' that the Prime Minister so often talks about, was completely dominated by the Progressives. Kayal Dravesha, a modernising, island seat held by Action Party's Vijya Srivastav, was taken by the centre-left alliance. The Prime Minister himself increased his personal majority by over 40 points. This is undoubtedly a sign of a significant shift in the type of voter who supports the centre-left's candidates to a middle class grouping who have benefited from internationalism and globalisation.

South-West Kalkalistan

Image
Vote shares in Khond and Rajavant.

A full 20 seats were gained by the socialists in this region, mostly in the region around the sub-region of Ananti Pradesh, which shares more in common with neighbouring Bhaporistan that the southern coast of Rajavant. Among the seats the Socialists won here were those of the Party's leader - Faran Cunnarillat - and a number of regional list seats. This was primarily at the expense of the localists, who also lost out on the southern coastal seat of Vatavana West to Progressive Chhotu Nanku - a seat that has a lot in common with Kayal Island because of tech start-ups and increasing internationalisation.

The big gainers in the south west, however, where in fact the Action Party and their leader Hasika Asuri; winning seats like Dakheta and Virorka in the rural midsection of Khond and Rajavant respectively. This was a direct result of the large but expected movement of rural voters away from the stale Agrarian Party towards the larger, right-wing bloc - which had promised to take up the mantle of a pro-farming, socially conservative representative. Mrs Hasika specifically targeted the area because she assumed it to be a good practice ground for detoxifying her party, which had historically been seen as Rajutti-and-Kalam-centric.

North-West Kalkalistan

Image
Vote shares in Utsal, Bhaporistan and Sanashtra.

The north-west was filled with good news for the Socialists, who won 84 seats in the region, up 49 from last time. The campaign here focused on what the government should prioritise their spending on, and the isolationist Socialists won the argument here that military spending is a distraction from internal development. The hard-left party won over 60% of the vote in Bhaporistan and took 12 seats from the Progressives after an urban sweep. Progressive Minister for Industry Ekalavya Devi, for example, was swept aside in his Durupa seat by Socialist Ektaa Mallick. Socialist Chaman Osmani also bested Progressive Somu Hamid in a fight over the 40%-Ahmadi urban seat of Saadal-Upasa.

The Communitarians went all-in on winning the industrial state of Sanashtra, but ended up just a few thousand votes short of the Socialists. They did, however, defeat Progressive Varsha Mahasaya in the town of Pagishka - welcoming former nurse Vinita Ghani into parliament, who is tipped to be their next justice critic. Ultimately, they could not overcome the Socialist surge that filled up the regional lists. The Progressives simply fell apart in an area that was once their heartland, perhaps the most clear sign yet of a major realignment in Vascanian politics.

In summary, the results spell a seismic shift in the voter base of the centre-left, with the wider national left splitting clearly based on how internationalisation has affected their communities. The Socialists have surged, but they have burnt bridges with the PM due to their unbending opposition to the reforms that Luitail prizes above all else. The Communitarians, Agrarians and other smaller parties probably don't feel particularly good about the results - but Prem Joshi is certain to be quite happy. The Action Party is still in the wilderness, but they might be just a bit further to the forest's edge now they have the rural south-west in their pocket.

As to who can form the next government, it looks like the incumbent Subhas Luitail will have the first crack at forming a government coalition. The Communitarians, unfortunately for them, are not large enough to help out. The Socialists would demand that he abandon his signature military reforms, which it is unlikely he would be willing to do. It is perhaps possible that a new coalition with the Action Party could be formed, provided that they abandoned their support for high tariffs and distanced themselves from Prem Joshi's politics. This is a price they may be just about willing to pay in order to prevent a government filled with metzists and trade unionists.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
by Prem Joshi

Friends, our nation has been BETRAYED by Hasika Asuri, who has entered coalition with the foul pro-gay, pro-immigration and pro-GLOBALISM Prime Minister. Frankly, it is MIRACULOUS she was able to be in a room with him long enough to come to an arrangement, especially considering this PM is known to emit a FOUL ODOUR. Apparently it has become more sulphuric since he entered government.

This is a TREACHERY against the TRUE NATIONALISTS of our country. We voted for the Action Party, especially on the party list, in the hopes that Mrs Hasika would stand up AGAINST globalism. I knew I was naive to trust a woman with any kind of power. Women, perhaps, can be involved in education, even healthcare IF NECESSARY - but total power is clearly too much for them. At a certain point, a woman's brain simply FAILS them.

It is because our nation needs a PROUD NATIONALIST FORCE, I am today announcing the creation of a new party: The Prem Joshi List! We will stand in constituencies held by globalism members of parliament, as well as having a FULL LIST in each and EVERY state of our land. We are nationalists, we are traditionalists, we are conservatives and we are NOT AFRAID TO SAY IT.

Durga Upamash Elected Socialist Leader

Bhapor, Bhaporistan - Former trade union leader Durga Upamash has defeated seven opponents to become leader of the Democratic Socialist Party (DSPV for short), after winning clearly a vote of party members. Upamash was able to secure 52% support and won without the need for a run-off. Her closest opponent, parliamentary newcomer Chaman Osmani, won only 15% of the vote. The leadership election was triggered after the DSPV failed to enter coalition with the Progressive government, who favoured the centre-right Action Party as partners.

Upamash has developed a strong network of grassroots support among party members due to her radical politics and fiery rhetoric, as well as her achievements as chair of the Vascanian Teachers' Union. She has also called out the government on social media for perceived failings to invest internally in public services, but has not alienated some of the pro-militarism socialists from Kalam Nadu - who see the new naval contracts as good news for dock workers. She was able to unite Socialists from across the empire behind a platform of internal investment, reformed foreign policy and mass-nationalisation. She would also abolish the caste system which exists in certain rural parts of the nation via edict.

Here is a transcript from Upamash' victory speech:
The DSPV must stand for socialism, radical democracy and sensible foreign policy. What we are seeing right now is the established economic order increasing corporate rule, even as they claim to stand for modernisation. We must nationalise our banking system, our financial system and our transport system and push big corporations out of the halls of power.

Protests Grown In Bhapor

Bhapor, Bhaporistan - Tensions have reignited in the troubled region of Bhapor as anti-Luitail sentiment has grown significantly in the area. Disagreements over spending priorities and a developing culture crash with the Kalamese and Rajutti middle class have contributed to a belief among Bhaporis that the government is not caring enough about them. Left-wing leaders in the region, including Socialist leader Durga Upamash, have expressed frustration about the stagnation in living quality and took to social media to encourage 'peaceful protest' to get 'meaningful change' from the federal government.

The government has fiercely defended their record, pointing to investments in road and rail infrastructure and a minimum wage that has been increased three times during his premiership. Detractors have maintained that these investments have been disproportionately made in areas that are already developed, such as Kalam Nadu. Upamash has accused Luitail of 'caring more about image than living standards', though the PM has rebuffed this as 'fanciful'. Protestors have in particular highlighted demands for representation on corporate boards and the reintroduction of tariffs on manufacturing.

Poll: Upamash Wins Debate

Image

Kamalata, Rajuttistan - Former trade union leader and current Socialist leader Durga Upamash has convincingly won the six-party debate ahead of the Vascanian Election. Upamash went up against Hasika Asuri of the Action Party, Subhas Luitail of the Progressives, Prem Joshi of the Prem List, Communitarian leader Amit Dhankar and Agrarian leader Koliti Bharatan. Upamash launched into a number of attacks on Hasika and Luitail, who are fighting against a growing demand for change after twelve years of government dedicated to liberalisation and internationalism. Hasika in particular seemed to have difficulty defending her positions against the attacks.

Prem Joshi also launched into a series of vitriolic attacks on all the other debaters, at one point accusing Luitail of being a homosexual and saying he could be smelt 'from outer space'. Prem and Upamash also entered an extended shouting match, with Prem calling Upamash 'a trollop' and Upamash calling Prem 'a fatty'. The studio audience was also highly animated - laughing, shouting and booing throughout the debate. Koliti Bharatan received some applause for saying that 'all the other leaders are too willing to go for the low blows'. Immediately afterwards, he was called 'a scrotum-monger' by Prem.

Prem has had some success in attracting attention in his quest to draw away voters from the Action Party, who he accused of 'treason' for siding with the Subhas Luitail government. Upamash has also seemingly had a successful campaign and is riding high in the polls with little time and few debates left to go. Currently, she has 42% in the average of polls - mostly thanks to a warm reception from working class voters throughout Kalkalistan.

Election 4768: Upamash Storms To Victory
Image

Image
Election results. Above, popular vote share; below, number of seats.

Durga Upamash and her Socialists have dramatically beaten the government, winning a majority of seats and votes. The governing coalition, the Progressives of PM Luitail and the Action Party, led by Internal Minister Hasika Asuri, suffered major losses in their historic heartlands as they bled votes to the extraordinary coalition assembled by Upamash. The fiery former trade union leader rallied social conservatives, nationalists, students, the working class, industrial workers and agricultural workers to her side after promising to pay for large internal investments through a wealth tax and new tariffs.

The political right has fallen to historic lows. The Action Party was abandoned by large parts of its base support, likely for its decision to enter coalition with the liberal Prime Minister. Upamash did not take a strong position on cultural and social issues, though many of her surrogates in conservative areas presented her as a defender of nationalism both economically and culturally. Asuri also lost votes to the new Prem Joshi List, the political vehicle of the controversial right-wing commentator. Prem was able to drum up support from scratch across rural and exurban Vanakalam, who responded positively to his promises of tighter immigration restrictions and rolling back social equality legislation.

The Agrarian Party failed to make any serious breakthrough, though some socially conservative farmers who had defected to the Action Party were won back. The Communitarian Party, contesting with a new, less charismatic leader, failed to get much support and lost votes to the Socialists - who made a concerted effort in places like Sanashtra and Hamal Pradesh to paint themselves as the only opposition to the incumbent Prime Minister. Independents continued to stay as a small proportion of the national vote, while local parties nearly doubled their vote but remained too small to make much of an impact.

As a large and diverse country, the Vascanian Empire can be subdivided into four geographic and cultural regions. This allows for our elections team here at Vascania News to further dissect the election results:

Image
Vanakalam: Kalam Nadu and Avidangana
Image

Image
Vote shares in Kalam Nadu and Avidangana.

After centuries of hostility towards left-wing politics, Vanakalam has gone as a plurality for the Socialists. Though they only got 28% of the vote, this is a historic moment for the Vascanian left, who stormed ahead by running up the margins in the Thikkonagama metropolitan area. The working class seats in the south of Kalam Nadu swung suddenly towards Upamash and her message of worker representation and trade union strengthening, abandoning historic misgivings about the party that came to dominate the streets lined with busy highrises. The educated voters are the universities of Kalam Nadu - often built by the Luitail government - also moved towards the Socialists.

The Action Party completely collapsed in the area around Sangora, a deeply socially conservative city that turned lavender overnight - the colour of Prem Joshi's List. The PJL ran aggressive and mud-slinging campaigns against Action Party incumbents in what turned out to be a highly successful campaign. Losses to the PJL include Hasika Asuri herself, who will now be on the list instead of in a constituency seat, and the Minister for Justice Sathush Suvanan - who lost to Prem Joshi's son Prem Kodi.

Image
Eastern Kalkalistan: Rajuttistan, Hamal Pradesh and Zaqrandi Pradesh
Image

Image
Vote shares in Rajuttistan, Hamal Pradesh and Zaqrandi Pradesh.

The Socialist majority was built here on the eastern coast, where urban voters - particularly in the capital of Kamalata - fully bought in to the narrative of 'Upamash versus Luitail'. Distilled down to this binary choice, voters flocked to Upamash and her vision. The socialists won by astounding margins in the cities, but also dominated the agricultural areas in Hamal Pradesh and southern Rajuttistan which have historically gone to the Action Party. These voters responded very positively to talk of implementing tariffs and offering rent controls - two of Upamash' key election promises.

Kayal Island stood alone in the region by retaining a mostly pro-Luitail character, likely because it has benefited most of all by the internationalist reforms the government has made into law. Fears about trading relations under Upamash kept Luitail safe in his own seat, though the growing city of Sangamara helped the Socialists elect their first ever Kayal Island-based member of parliament. Defence Minister Naaro Yalyn lost his seat in Zaqrandi Pradesh by a wide margin, in a region that swung even further to the socialists. Many towns in Zaqrandi Pradesh went to Upamash' list by over 80% of the vote.

Image
South-West Kalkalistan: Khond and Rajavant
Image

Image
Vote shares in Khond and Rajavant.

After decades of under-performing, the Socialists stormed to first place in the south-west. They won big in a number of agriculture-based regions that fully bought-in to the economic nationalism and agrarian socialism that Upamash promoted aggressively. The Socialist also recruited top-tier candidates in dozens of constituency seats across rural Rajavant, targeting pillars of the local community using local unions to organise canvassing campaigns that neither the liberal government nor conservatives could compete with. Losses include a number of agricultural and transport officials who have been pushed onto the list.

The area did maintain an undercurrent of agrarian conservatism in the villages, who stayed with Hasika Asuri and were hostile to Socialism. This likely played a part in why Upamash' list was not able to penetrate as deeply into the regional list in these areas, or run up its popular vote tally like it had in urban areas. The lack of major urban areas in the south-west - a region dominated by small towns and their satellite villages, with farms in the middle - perhaps saved the now-opposition from an even-greater majority for Upamash.

Image
North-West Kalkalistan: Utsal, Bhaporistan and Sanashtra
Image

Image
Vote shares in Utsal, Bhaporistan and Sanashtra.

It was considered spectacular when the socialists won 44% of the vote here last time, this time the region voted for Upamash by an astounding margin. Originally, many in our election studio mistook the vote tallies in areas like Bhapor as a technical fault - but in fact, there really were entire neighbourhoods in Utsal and Bhaporistan that voted unanimously for the left-wing. Bhapor City and some of cities in Utsal went over 75% for the Socialists after the Progressives and Action Party were widely seen as having 'pulled out' of campaigning there, seeing it as a waste of resources.

How exactly the vote was so overwhelmingly in favour of the Socialists is a matter of continuing discussion, but Upamash and her party took every single constituency bar one in Sanashtra. They also took half of the list seats as well, as voters saw the Luitail brand as toxic and seemed to view voting Socialist as the only way to voice their discontent with the status quo. Upamash' ability to unite the nation's left was of particular utility here, as no other socialist party rose up to contest this large anti-Luitail, pro-change majority. Some commentators have suggested that there is now a social taboo on voting for certain parties in Bhaporistan and Utsal, which may suggest that the non-socialist vote here simply didn't turn out to the polls.

Image
In Summary:
Durga Upamash has a comfortable majority and an extraordinarily wide electoral coalition. Her members of parliament were elected for very different reasons in very different places by very different people. This election, she was the change candidate and was able to unite a majority of voters to her ideas for systemic economic reform and protectionism. The challenge in the next four years for the new Prime Minister will be to keep her diverse coalition united in a voting system that rarely produces majority results. If any of the opposition parties can get their act together, they can win back some of the voters who lined up for the Socialists, but for now the reforms are likely to start coming thick and fast as 391 left-wing members have taken hold of the parliament.

Upamash: Drill, Baby, Drill
Image
Image
Above: drilling in the Great Vascanian Lake

Prime Minister Upamash has announced a major escalation in Vascania's oil production in a sharp departure from the anti-oil position of her predecessor. Upamash's government will be nationalising the 'Big Five' fossil fuel producers in the Empire, namely: Vascanoil, Vascanivital Oil, Gasprism Vascania, Vasca-Gasca and Origin Gas. Vascanoil in particular is the largest oil producer in the nation, with permissions to drill in the Great Vascanian Lake. These permissions have historically been greatly restricted by conservative governments who see the lake as a holy site and liberal governments who seek to preserve the region's environmental beauty.

Upamash, however, will be stepping up operations dramatically in the Lake - which is considered the largest oil reserve in Terra outside of Majatra. Production will more than triple from 3 million bbl/day to around 10 million bbl/day, with plans to increase from there. This will then be sold internationally to fund the large internal investment proposals of the new Socialist government, which has now scrapped its plans to reduce the size of Vascania's growing navy. Under new plans, the oil will likely pay for the production of even more ships than Vascania's current two fleets - with plans for former PM Luitail's extra fleet and another one more on top of that, a major reversal in Upamash' policy.

This will mean tripling the number of oil platform in the Great Vascanian Lake, paid for by a series of loans and the requisition of the financial assets of Vascanoil. Gasprism Vascania had also been working on a series of new extraction technologies that have now been requisitioned in order to further the dramatic movement towards oil production in the Empire. The government says this will allow current employees to keep their jobs, while potentially addings tens of thousands more in the process.

The move has been criticised, however, by the Progressive Alliance, who say that 'this is an ecological disaster waiting to happen'. Former Prime Minister Subhas Luitail, a noted supporter of military investment - particularly navally - has said that this move is 'too high a price environmentally' even though it will help pay for a renewed military investment. Some socialist student groups are also dismayed that the pacifistic rhetoric of Upamash and her parliamentary party seem to have been put to one side, as well as her former ecological support. The government defends its policies, saying investment will 'be excellent news for jobs, economic growth and the creation of a fourth fleet'.
