GONGMANGDO: For the past year the Gongmangdo Metropolitan Police (GMP) had been testing the use of drones for their law enforcement needs in a partnership with the Mayor’s Office and Woosan Heavy Industries. This trial proved successful and the GMP has unveiled their official drone fleet that will assist in crime scene investigation, emergency call response, and public surveillance in high-crime districts.
Earlier this year Gongmangdo earned the unflattering distinction of being the most dangerous city in the Dranian Federation. The Mayor’s Office issued a statement disputing this label, noting the “immense safety” of Gongmangdo’s most notable districts and encouraging the public to ignore attempts by the media to ruin the image of Dankuk’s “most integral and culturally important city.”
While it is true that the hyper-wealthy city core and tourist sites are indeed quite safe, it is only through policies which have economically segregated the greater urban region. Furthermore, the city core has also operated almost like a police-state in recent years and there have been multiple accounts of homeless or “poor looking” people being harassed by the GMP. And in the case of the former, most accounts always involve the homeless individual(s) being rounded up and dumped off in a random outer district.
In the first week of GMP drone deployment, drones have been observed in significant numbers surveilling the outer districts. They’ve also been spotted aiding police response to “undesirable loitering” in the downtown area and providing security assistance at Gongmangdo’s largest casino. The Mayor’s Office has dismissed complaints lodged by petitioners asserting that the GMP is corrupt, discriminatory, and abusing power.

SEONGTAEK: The Federal Senate continues to have a historically active session, no doubt a result of opposition parties positioning themselves ahead of what is expected to be a competitive election both federally and provincially. Particularly vocal is Senator Bae Yoo-bin, the sole federal senator representing the recently established Ecology Movement, or Ecoco. The leftist party certainly stands to gain the most in the next elections and they have gained plenty of press for their clashes with the governing Innovative Dankuk (DI).
Senators with Premier Hyeonju Bautista’s party have voted down most of Senator Bae’s proposals. As far as overall voting records go, more of Ecoco’s bills have been rejected by the DI majority than bills from the Bolsheviks, although just barely. Premier Bautista has been highly critical of Ecoco’s platform and their proposals to massively inflate the size and power of the federal government. DI senators have described it as a destruction of the Dranian federalist ideals.
However, the Premier has also expressed a much more scathing opinion of the Bolshevik party, which he regards a much more real threat to the integrity of the federation than Bae and her leftist democratic organization. Concerned by recent Bolshevik legislation in the Senate, Premier Bautista has outright condemned the opposition and has warned them against continued mobilization in favor of the policy changes they’ve proposed this session.
Among those proposals was the legalization of guns and paramilitaries. Premier Bautista has urged the Bolsheviks to understand the history of these issues in Dankuk and the immense destruction paramilitaries have brought upon the nation in its past. At the same time, the Premier acknowledged the worrying political philosophy of the opposition, lamenting the fact that they may have no problem inciting violence in the name of a misguided revolution.
In his concluding remarks, Premier Bautista reiterated the importance of upholding the long-standing peace and stability of the Dranian Federation. He also promised to do everything in his power and with the aid of the Federal Council to prevent political violence from again finding a way into Dranian politics.
