Bayonville: In the wake of the recent Hubris War and continued geopolitical tensions the Benegarde Administration has announced their "New Security Law" or Nouvelle loi sur la sécurité focussing on reforming and reorganizing the Aldurian security apparatus. The new law reforms existing agencies and the armed forces, focussing on creating a robust and effective security community capable of "independently protecting Aldurian people and interests." The new reform notably creates the new Direction Nationale du Renseignement or DNR, focussed on foreign intelligence gathering and operations, with the new Agence de défense de l'État (State Defense Agency) to focus on domestic surveilance, intelligence and security operations. The police is to be reformed into the National Police, with the current decentralized structure of the police to be consolidated into a single national structure, with the regions to gain sub-branches of the police operating under a national umbrella. The Armed Forces will also be reformed and renamed, to be collectively known as Forces armées nationales (National Armed Forces). The current branches are to be renamed into the Aldurian Army, the Navy of the State, the Aldurian Air Force and the National Guard. This last branch will be newly created and in charge of customs controls, border checks and acting as the military police for the armed forces.
All in all the changes are meant to streamline the security apparatus and professionalize a neglected part of the Aldurian state. President Benegarde endorsed the legislation, which was proposed by a Socialist MP, Jean-Marc Cailloux, former officer in the Aldurian army. Benegarde noted that "this bill has the potential to professionalize our security apparatus. Furthermore, it will set the stage and create the foundations for us to further build a independent and effective security sphere with the help, but not the reliance on, our partners such as Lourenne." The bill is currently being debated in the National Assembly but with Socialist support is guarenteed to pass.
