NewsBeluzian Election Campaign Heats Up!

The Political Parties in Beluzia have begun their campaigns for the election due in September. Each party has put forward their positions on issues ranging from regulating the media, healthcare and marriage. The election is likely to be pivital in determining the future of Beluzia. Should USCRRA hold onto it's massive number of seats, it will make it impossible for other parties to form a government. The Whig Party, currently the second largest in Parliament, has expressed with the governing coalition of which it is part of. The coalition parties, comprising of three parties, USCRRA, The Whigs and the TPPP, have such different ideologies and policies that it is extremely rare that they agree on any legislation at all. The only legislation which has recieved universal support from the government in recent months, was for removing the "Zogist Empire" from the nations name, instead opting for "United Federation".

With such dissent in the government ranks, and the added complication of a new faction in Beluzian politics in the form of the West Terra, Beluzia and Bailon Company. The next election will be vital in deciding who governs in the next term. Will we continue to be lead by a USCRRA government, or will the Whigs find new allies in WTBB? Should they gain enough seats, we may just have a new coalition by the end of september!

Tensions Grow as Cabinet Discussions Collapse!

This week has seen the collapse of two Cabinet Proposals by the Whig Party. The first proposal was rejected by the Beluzia and Bailon Cape and Isle Company, as they claimed being offered the ministry of Food and Agriculture was insulting. The second proposal was rejected by the BBCIC because of divisions between themselves and the Zogist Peoples Populist Party, despite being offered two ministries. After days of arguing over policy and ideology, it has become very clear that such a coalition would be untenable.

A spokesperson at Ripley Castle, the Whig Party Head Quarters, said at the time, "The Whig Party leadership is in close talks with it's political allies to come up with a strategy for the next election. Obviously Lord Barbossa is frustrated by recent events, and would have liked an agreement to have been made. The party is confident that some arrangement can be made should the voters favour our cause."

The next election will see the first election for Head of State since March 2872, 12 years ago. Such an election will add a new dynamic to Beluzian politics, the Whig Party hsa already declared its intention to put forward Lord Barbossa as it's candidate, as well as backing the BBCIC candidate should they fail to make it to the second round.

Election Campaign Begins

The Laird and Minister of State have released a manifesto for the next election at the Whig Party Conference in Calpicosa. The Laird opened the conference with a speech highlighting the importance of maintaining the progress of the Whig Government.
"Beluzians, Whig Party members, I welcome you to our annual conference. The upcoming election has the potential to either consolidate our majority, or to completely shatter it by offering the Zogists the office of Laird and the majority in the Federal Assembly. It saddens me that Beluzia remains in a two party politics scenario, but I firmly believe that of the two parties, we provide the best option for our voters.
This October I ask the people of Beluzia to consider their vote carefully. This election could give us the chance to make the changes needed for our country. If the electorate sees it grant us the 2/3rds majority, we shall then be able to make constitutional changes that have been so difficult to change in recent years. This will also allow us to forge better relationships with other nations. Recently we negotiated a renewal of our alliance with Hutori. I believe the next step is to reconcile our relationship with the Rutanians. From there we have the potential to negotiate the possibility of a regional bloc. Artania has the potential to be the most powerful continent on Terra. We can help lead this movement.
I pledge to make huge changes to our national budget. At present the tax rates are far too high, and spending is far to low. This means that the government is storing money it simply does not need. I propose to increase funding to all departments, in order to make good use of the tax money. I also promise to half the corporation and sales taxes. I will also have the next government reconsider income tax. We realise that the current budget is not ideal, and this is largely the legacy of the former administrations.
We need to safeguard the legislation passed under our government, which would be reversed by the PPP if they are given the majority. Zog still seeks to find his way back onto the throne of Beluzia. We cannot allow this to happen. The Laird should be an elected position, answerable to the people. We will protect this electoral system, which is fair for Beluzia."

Beluzia24: Election of July 3216

Beluzia24: The Friendly News Channel

Hello,

This is news anchor Philip Stevens on the brand-spanking-new Beluzia24, the friendly news channel, in wonderfully shiny Belmouth. Anyhow, the election day - yes, that glorious day we all look forward to here in Great Beluzia - has come! I bet you know how you voted, but you don't know how others voted, so that's why I'm here! Haha! Well, despite the sweltering heat, a solid 69% of voters turned out and cast their ballots. Good job on you!

It was a fantastic day for the People's Great Society of Hope. Their first election transformed them from a new factor in politics with no real power to the majority party with a total of 198 (out of 500) seats! Wow! As an unabashed member of the Society myself, I'm just proud as can be of all you votin' guys! Wow! Long live Siegmund II!

The day was good for the Tory ACN too. Although they lost a few seats, the new distribution of power means they can break any disagreement between the Progressive Conservatives and the Society, which bumps up their power considerably. Additionally, they went right on over and took that Head of State position right away from the Progressive Conservatives! That's right, we Beluzians have a new Leader of the Nation, Andrew Stanton! We don't know exactly what his positions are, but it will certainly be interesting to find out, won't it?

The Progressive Conservatives did not do so well, losing a total of 147 seats, as well as the Leader of the Nation position. Wow! Quite a loss there!

Well, the new dynamics of Beluzian politics have yet to work themselves out, but it sure will be interesting! As it stands now, any two out of three parties supporting a bill can override the other one. However, the PC-Society combined vote is just under a 2/3 majority, throwing quite a kink in the plans to establish a monarchy. Oh well. However, the majority they have is quite enough to ensure that control of the economy stays with the PC-Society voting bloc. The Tory ACN is straight out'a luck on that! Haha! The majority is also solid enough that the cabinet will probably be controlled entirely by Progressive Conservative and Society politicians. To make this a reality, the Society is currently attempting to form the PC-Society Alliance for Freedom and Patriotism, which will effectively control much of Great Beluzia's policy.

Well, that's all for the political section of the news. Long live Holy Visionary Edward Forstev!

Anyhow, on to cooking news after the break. Be sure to stay tuned, the news certainly is going to heat up as we hear of the ongoing Egg Cooking Conference in Parlos City! What a town! Haha!

A new party has gained popularity over the past few years. The Beluzian Liberal Socialist Party has been in a close battle, with the existing (and old) Tory Party for years.
The BLSP leader, now President of Beluzia, is inviting world leaders to attend a global conference in Port Prosperity.

A Dorvish politician was bashed in a debate in Beluzia's Parliament of Aristocrats.
His Excellency, the Count, had addressed the Parliament on his plans for the nation's foreign policy.
Begging for support from the Aristocrats in Beluzia, Gotthilf Siegel made negative remarks about Gaduridos and the ATR, but his statements were followed by harsh criticism from His Excellency, the Count.

Tory politicians were mostly silent after the Count said something, which seemed to be somewhat of a threat to the Tory leaders. When questioned, he wrote a letter.
His Excellency, Count Kristov I wrote:I do not plan to have the Tory leaders assassinated, or even lynched, but not everything is planned.

The situation in Beluzia is tense, as the entire government structure has been reformed in a very short period. Beluzia's new government system seems to fit into both the IML and the ATR. What's strange is that the Count leans more to ATR foreign affairs than the IML, but he said that may change, where he would aim for a balance.

International marriage unites political factions in Beluzia and Keymon

While serving as the delegate to the Port Tackstov Conference for the Society for Enlightenment and Liberty, Neil Bushnell encountered Count Karav I's charming sister, Sarita Gauri de Karav. A mere two weeks later, a marriage was announced. Bushnell made the announcement earlier today during the conference's break, making it clear that he would periodically be taking some time away from the conference.

It is not yet known how the international community will take the marriage of a soon-to-be political exile and a Count's sister.

The History of Beluzia's Throne

After being recognized by the International Monarchist League, Beluzia has decided to publish the stories of its throne.
Logon to www.throne.gov.bel for information.

We thank the IML for our recognition.
The Karav Dynasty will commit its army to IML affairs where necessary, however Beluzia itself is neutral. Legislation and choking bureaucracy prevent Beluzia from signing the IML treaty, but the Karav Dynasty's own military will commit itself to the interests of the IML where necessary, meaning that we would defend other thrones, and abide by the IML treaty's conditions as if we were "Beluzia" itself. We have our own military, like any other Beluzian family, and it has been granted autonomy, enough to engage in foreign wars outside of Beluzia's concern.

What the IML can do is to check each house and question its position on the IML. If the house doesn't recognize itself as an IML family, then the IML can simply choose not to recognize that family's candidate for the throne. In a case where such a candidate wins, the IML can choose to recognize the runner-up if the runner-up is aligned to IML, like the Karav dynasty is.

Kristov II

Kristov II, of the Karav Dynasty, was crowned "High Count" today, after Nick Williams abdicated.
The abdication, of Nick Williams, was based on the fact that he had not held control of any region. Since he abdicated, he has regained control of Iliathar from the Tyndales, but they have the same number of seats in Iliathar's local legislature.
There is a similar case in Negunia, where the Stantons and Karavs are locked in a tie, but the Stantons are given de jure recognition as "being in control of Negunia" since they had slightly more votes, despite having the same number of seats.

Rise & Fall of the Blue Oligarchy

The Blue Coalition ended up in deadlock with the Royalist Coalition.

This motivated them to attempt a coup; it failed at first, but with the help of election fraud, they managed to install their own leader as the monarch for 2 miserable years. Massive riots flamed in the streets near the end of the term, and the Blue regime collapsed after already receiving international criticism.

They faced corruption charges not long after.
