Death of the Grand Rengheedra

Postby Rumbold90 » Tue Jun 23, 2009 1:51 am

"Da worke d'Gotta gymycht. The work of God has been done." The last words of the Grand Rengheedra: Joseph Sionla.

The Grand Rengheedra and his wife had no children, and no clear line of succession for the office Grand Rengheedra had been established. Although there were several famous members of the church community who were beleived to have tried to convince the Grand Rengheedra to make them his successor. Because no clear successor had been stated, the Council of Rengheedran Elders had been called to meet in Port Andalay and choose a new successor.

Aleksander Hyktun boarded the last bus from Loda to Port Andalay to attend the Elder's meeting. He had been chosen by the Republic Elders as a replacement for his local Rengheed who was ill with the flu. He only had had enough time to pack a small suitcase of some clothes and several personal items. He had just finished his senior year at univeristy, with a major in philosophy and a minor in economics. He hadn't found a job yet, but he did some part time work for his local CDR congregation, which numbered around 575 people.

The bus arrived in Port Andalay at 3:45 AM, after making several stops to change flat tires. Aleksander grabbed his luggage and walked across the street to the building that said "Hotel" outside. He entered the building, walked up to the front desk and began speaking with the man across the counter from him.

"I would like a room for one week, please. Aleksander put his identification card and driver's liscence on the counter.

"We have three rooms avaliable. I assume that you want the cheapest?" The man began typing on his computer.

"Yes, please. Here is my credit card."

"Here are your cards back, sir. Please enjoy your stay."

Aleksander looked at the little card to his hotel room door. He walked up the two flights of stairs to room 315. He put his little card in the door, and waited for the green light. He then walked into the room, threw his luggage on the floor and collapsed onto the bed, exhausted from the bus ride.

Aleksander walked into the large conferance room located on the ground floor of his hotel. The room was filled with a large mass of mostly older men dressed in robes, suits, collered shirts and clericals. In the front of the room was a large semi-circle table with seven men sitting there. These men were the Supreme Council, and are the second-most elite people within the Church of Divine Rengheed, besides the Grand Rengheedra.

Aleksander sat down in his assigned seat, in the Kregon section of the room. Each republic had to choose a candidate, and each group was yelling, pounding fists on tables and chairs, and making rude gestures to each other. Everyone wanted to have a say in the election. After several hours debating, a man wearing a green robe walked up to the microphone in the front of the room, and said that the time for debate was up. The candidates had to be chosen. A spokesman from each group was sent to the microphone to announce the candidate of their group's choice.

The names were read off: "Thomas Silver, Grygory Vuhul, Dietmar Loda, Kyle Green and Aleksander Hyktun. Please come forward, and sit in the five chairs here in the front of the room, behind the microphone."

The five candidates stood up and walked towards the front. Aleksander was still shocked that he was chosen, because he was the most inexperienced of the group. He sat down in his chair, and awaited the decision of the Supreme Council and watched them engage in heated conversation, while several members of the Renheedran Elders ran up to the front desk and began arguing. Aleksander smiled as he watched the chaos. It reminded him of something from a movie he had seen.

The man in the green robe walked back up to the mircrophone after several hours, cleared his throat and began speaking.

"Sytken Uro pla. Please be seated. After several hours of headted debate, the Supreme Council has chosen a successor and new Grand Rengheedra. We are pleased to announce the Grand Rengheedra, Aleksander Hyktun!"

Aleksander couldn't belive his ears. He stood up, and was escorted outside by several men in polo shirts into a car, that spead off toward another hotel in the center of Port Andalay.

"The funeral for Grand Rengheedra Sionla is next Tuesday. Are you prepared?"

"Yes, I am. Thank you." Aleksander turned towards one of the men in the polo shirt. He handed the man his suitcase, and the man walked up the stairs to the new room, to make sure that it was ready for the new Grand Rengeedra.
