WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM EXECUTED

Upon their arrival back to Deltaria, our female representatives in the World Cup expected to be praised for getting as far as they did. Instead, they were arrested in the airport and sentenced to death for "misrepresenting Deltaria."

The players, the managers, the fans, and anyone else found associated with the team were all arrested and sentenced to death. Just two days later, they were all publicly executed in Cachtiče. The execution was broadcast on all channels. After the event, His Majesty the Tsar spoke, saying that "Deltarians are not losers, therefore these people must not be Deltarians."

The men's soccer team, who also lost, were not executed publicly following their defeat years ago, although they did go "mysteriously missing" ,probably hiding in fear of the Tsar's righteous wrath.

NEW LIST OF BANNED LITERATURE

His Exalted Highness the Tsar, in His supreme wisdom, has formed a new, comprehensive list of threatening books that pose a danger to our minds. The list includes:

-Any book posing a republican system of government in a neutral or positive light
-Any book posing the Tsardom in a negative light
-Any book by a Selucian or Zardic author

The Tsar announced his decree with festivities: book burnings and public executions! Parents and children alike took great joy in burning vile words and then watching rebel dogs be righteously punished by the Tsar's mighty hand.

Both the young and old took delight in the pages turning to ash

While Anti-Selucian/Zardic/Republican fervor has begun to die down over the last few years, this event has partially revived the completely justified fear of the republicans. His Majesty the Tsar stated that he intends to "fight the republicans and their attempts to dominate the globe, using whatever means possible."

Clerical-Aristocratic Coalition Deposes Tsar
October 19, 3742

A coalition of senior clergymen and nobles, tired of the excesses and brutalities of the Tsar, has asked the Papez Augustus III to annex Deltaria into the Holy Lands. . The coalition won a super majority of seats in the October legislative elections and have looked around and argued much among themselves, it is in Dolinka where they have found their champion. The Papez appears to have played the reluctant prince at first and the coalition which appears to have originally intended to make the Papez a nominal head of state gave in more and more. The concessions were won with a firm promise to uphold the ancient privileges of the nobility which they feel have been violated under the autocratic Czardom.

The new master of Deltaria: Augustus III

Deltaria’s new head of state is a ‘young’ 55 year old Papez formerly known as Kardinal Marek z Fico. He was born to the knightly Fico family in western Darali. He entered the Church and advanced rapidly under the patronage of his great uncle Kardinal Archbiskup Miroslav z Fico. When the later was elected Papez Augustus II in 3722, he named his great nephew a Kardinal and Archbiskup of Hradnice. From there he rose and served ably as a Kardinal Secretary of State under the succeeding pope Filaret VII. He was easily elected Papez in the conclave of 3739 and from there paid a close attention to politics in Deltaria. The new regime faces several challenges, chiefly the balancing of authority between the Church, the nobles and the common people of Deltaria; hitherto the Church has only exercised temporal rule over its tiny Voivodeship of Dolinka.

Ex-Tsar Arrested
December 14, 3742

The Secretariat appointed by Papez Augustus III has moved quickly against the ousted Baláž dynasty. It scored at a particularly impressive score against the dynasty, arresting the patriarch himself - the ousted Tsar Jaromir III. The Tsar was nabbed while attempting to flee from the capital Cachtice, dressed as a monk. He had joined a group of monks travelling to Zardugal but unfortunately for him one Brother Illiya Chovanec recognised the Tsar and called the authorities. Brother Chovanec said he remembered the Tsar's face from the execution of his sister Jana who was one of the dozens of soccer players executed by the Tsar a few years back. As a reward for his services, Brother Illiya earned him a rich benefice (the Abbey of Prevov in southern Daralia)

The Tsar is now being held in the bowels of Unicov Castle, just north of Dolinka in the Holy Lands proper. This most notorious of castles has held several errant Papezes, Anti-Papezes, Kardinals and others and few have left it alive. The Tsar is to be kept company by dozens of his former Ministers and officials, all of them sharing the shame and horror of excommunication - a punishment imposed by the Papez on these people and the leadership of thousands of Tsarist loyalists who had taken to protesting outside Cachtice Cathedral, the seat of the Kardinal Secretary of State Kardinal Archbiskup Horthy.

Papez Forbids Order From Fighting In Barmenia

Papez Augustus III had refused to allow the Tepesovo Order from entering the Brmek conflict, fighting on the side of the Government. The Papez made his position clear in an audience with the Order's Grand Master Pan Mojimir Atheling in the Apostolic Palace in Dolinka. The Papez said it was unacceptable to intervene in a conflict between 'mutually abhorrent heathen forces' and in a short statement afterwards made it clear that the Church's official position on pagan cat worship and Ahmadism was still the same - both are heathen faiths and their adherents would not receive salvation from Boh until they abandoned their faiths and embrace the only true religion - Hosianism of the Terran Patriarchal rite. He also expressed anxiety over the small Hosian community in the Felinist Republic.

Teposovo Order knights

The Tepesovo Order is a prestigious 313 year old military order which was founded during the Dolgavan Crusades. It never saw much action in Keris but upon returning home, the then four dozen members worked hard pooling resources and attracting adventurous youngsters to their order and now the Order boast some 1,700 members and owning tens of thousands of acres of prime land in southern Darali. Indeed its very name Teposov is named after the southern town where the Order owns an estimated 40% of real estate and surrounding land.

The Papez however issued a Bull allowing providers of humanitarian services to go to Barmenia and provide these vital services. As of today about 350 ad volunteered to go to the country. An insider however complained about how their bags were 'two thirds full of holy books and crosses', implying that this might turn out to be more of a proselyting mission than a humanitarian one. The Papez said the two missions were not necessarily contradictory and souls needed to be saved too. The Papez's refusal to allow the Teposovo Order to go north has been blamed by a high placed source in the Curia as based on 'fear of the utterly ancient fighting methods and organisation that the Order sticks to. Even Ahmadi upstarts use semi sophisticated weaponry but these knights only very reluctantly use firearms at all and still prance around in heavy armour.'

'Rebellion' Ends
June 22, 3744

Image
A protest in Hradnice

Following the ousting of Tsar Jaromir III, a low intensity rebellion has been rocking the Papezsky States. Thousands of Tsarist loyalists took to the streets and some even armed themselves and disappeared into the forests of Ushalande. The whole thing which the Papez infamously called a 'great big joke' disrupted little but kept the clerical establishment on its feet. The rebellion was extraordinarly disorganised and basically anyone who loved the Tsar just took part, very often half hearted. In many protest centres, the Church even sent out first aid teams, priests to hear confessions and supplies to the protesters and not a single cleric received more than just mild verbal abuse.

Jaromir IV, the deposed Tsar's heir saw the writing on the wall and decided to give in gracefully to the new establishment. He renounced his claims and asked his supporters to lay down their arms and submit to the rule of the Church. Few resisted Prince Jaromir's pleas which some have rumoured were purchased with a large monetary payment from the Papez's treasury. None of this has surprised many, Deltaria has not enjoyed liberal democracy in three centuries and for many at the bottom, little changes with regime change. The clerics have stabilised the economy and invested a bit more in social spending however not much else has changed, the nobles remain firmly in the driving seat especially at the local government level. The Papez and most of his Deltarian Kardinals are mostly members of the same nobility.

U-Turn in Dolinka?
June 9, 3745

Image
Pápež Augustus III

The Pápežsky States are gripped by that question. This follow Kardinal Ferréol Reccared the Secretary for Relations with States (Foreign Minister)'s announcement that the two year ban on militia from the Pápežsky States taknig part in the Brmek civil war had been lifted. First to take advantage of the announcement were the Tepesovo Order which announced that it would be furnishing a unit of 600 men to join the fight against the Ahmadi rebels. Three other smaller orders have collectively put up 400 men and the four orders are coordinating their operations and may even act under unified command once they reach Barmenia.

The policy change is also thought to have been influenced by the Vanukuese Kardinal - Kardinal Anton Vrn. He has consistently lobbied the Pápež to enter the conflict on the Brmek government's side or at the very least on the Brmek Hosians' side. He finally won over the Pápež by pointing out that an Ahmadist victory in Barmenia would lead to 'global Ahmadi aggression and swaggering' unlike any seen since the days of the Razamid Caliphate in the late 37th century. The cat worshippers, he pointed out have shown no religious belligerence towards their neighbours and in fact tolerate several faiths within their borders.

Pápež To Declare Crusade on Lodamun?

Unconfirmed reports claim that the Pápež's Secretariat is in the process of drafting a Bull declaring a Crusade on Lodamun. The Pápež's Press Officer has laughed off the claims, calling the reports 'fanciful'. The Pápež has condemned several Lodamese policies in the past, particularly the religious intolerance against Hosians and lately the arrest of Vanukuese citizens residing in Lodamun. He has also maintained the sanctions against Lodamun and is said to have placed pressure on Zardugal to remain firm on Lodamun.

Marchers Reach Dolinka
January 10, 3746

Image
the Marchers entering Dolinka

Panic has gripped the Apostolic Palace as the three hundred thousand or so 'Marchers' have entered the Holy Lands. The Marchers began their march in the far north in the town of Lagarui Mutilarii. The March began following the arrest of Mircea Streza a highly popular local priest who has campaigned against corruption and laxity in the Terran Patriarchal Church. Fr. Streza was arrested three weeks ago for distributing pamphlets slamming the Pápež's decision to award his brother, Pan Stefan z Fico, the title of Markiz of Hradnice and a land grant rumoured to be around 50,000 acres of prime agricultural land in and around the Daralian city of Hradnice. Appointing three nephews and cousins as Kardinals did not help much either.

Following Fr. Streza's arrest, his supporters organised in Ushalande and called for sympathisers to join them on a peaceful march to Dolinka to 'consult' with the Pápež. what began as no more than 300 men grew as many, tired of the TPC's corruption, nepotism and pragmatism decided to join the march. The appalling level of social services and deeply ingrained corruption in government attracted even secularists to the march. Having reached the outskirts of Dolinka with no incident, the Marchers have given no cause for violent retribution from the authorities leaving them wondering how to deal with them.

Revolution in Dolinka
New Pápež Elected
March 15, 3746

Pápež Augustus III has passed away after suffering a massive heart attack. The Pápež, 59 at his time of death, is thought to have to suffered a heart attack triggered by the ongoing Marchers' occupation of Dolinka. The Marchers called for the release of activist priest Fr. Mircea Streza and reform in the Church and did not weaken their resolve when Fr. Streza was released and placed under house arrest. Shortly after the Pápež died in his office in the western wing of the Apostolic Palace and the Kardinals and Archbiskups who make up the Holy Sobor streamed in to elect the Pápež's successor.

At the onset of the conclave, the favourite is believed to have been the 75 year old Kardinal Secretary of State Miloš z Horthy is thought to have been the favourite in his fourth bid for the Pápežate. The Marchers however had other ideas. They yelled out 'Streza! Streza! Streza!' referring to the very man who brought them to Dolinka after all. The crowds moved in on the Apostolic Palace and in one of the shortest conclaves ever, the Holy Sobor elected, in a huge upset, Fr. Mircea Streza as the new Pápež of the Terran Patriarchal Church. It was only then the Marchers withdrew from the surroundings of the Apostolic Palace.

Pápež Mircea I

The 78 year old is one of the most low ranking clergymen to be raised to the Pápežate. A simple and low born Ushalandan who has served the same parish ( Lagarui Mutilarii) for 46 years. His persistent criticism of corruption and laxity in the Church froze hiscareer and even led to attempts to remove him, attempts which failed due to the parishioners' devotion to him. Upon being told of his election, the new Pápež rejected the honour and it took several hours before he agreed to accept it -if only to reform the Church. He also refused to change his name,as Pápežes traditionally upon election saying it had 'been good enough for 78 years.'

Shaking Up The Pápežsky States
May 25, 3747

The election of Pápež Mircea I has been described as one of the most radical elections since the 3565 election of Concordus II (a Selucian Patriarchal elected as an attempt to heal the schism) The unique revolutionary elements associated with the election have led to equally revolutionary changes in the Pápežsky States' government. The old regime of aristocratic Kardinals and Archbiskups is being swept away with the Pápež appointing several low ranking clergymen and commoners to his Secretariat.

Many are already grumbling about the reform. Nobles and the upper middle class detest the recent introduction of a new income tax rate of 20% meant to fund refurbishment of public hospitals and schools amongst other public services. The Pápež's decision to introduce a strict Hosian law based code has been met with disappointment by many freethinkers and law enforcement personnel who dislike having their work burden added to yet without any budgetary increase to accommodate those burdens. Many employees (orrather ex-employees0 at the apostolic Church were shocked when the Pápež dismissed them, retaining only his longtime housekeeper from Ushalande and the Dissuwan Guard only. He refused to move into the Palace, opting to live in a three room staff quarters attached to the Palace.

Image
The new Apostolic Palace?

Perhaps the most vocal about their unhappiness are the Pápež's own relatives - the Streza. Nicolae Streza the Pápež's eldest nephew thought his lifetime career as a welder was over upon his uncle's election to the Pápežate. He had begun styling himself Baron z Lagarui Mutilarii, expecting his uncle to summon him to Dolinka and appoint him to the nobility as Pápežes traditionally do. Many had begun seeking his favour and lending him money, expecting great returns. The Pápež on hearing about this, ordered his nephew to desist and then commanded his nephews to stay away from Dolinka on the pain of impriosonment. He reaffirmed that he would grant no favours to his relations and shockingly to be Dolinkan establishment, he refused to appoint none of his seventeen to the Kardinalate. Many had just expected the Pápež to be like other Pápežes who pronounced their intentions to reject nepotism but once elected, stuffed their relatives with honours and gifts of land.
