Forum-Based Countries Information

[Moderation]

The forum-based countries are the large grey area on the eastern section of the in-game world map that is not composed of in-game playable countries. In role-play terms the countries have been known by various names including the "former colonies" or the "Third World". In the past most of the forum-based countries were colonial possessions of the in-game playable countries but they have been independent for many centuries and most have developed beyond their position as former colonies.

Player are permitted to take control of forum-based countries for the purpose of role-play. Interested players must meet the criteria outlined in section 9 of the Game Rules and be in good standing with Moderation. In order to apply for control, players should submit a request in the "Forum-Based Countries Control Requests" thread which must include the name of the country being requested and a short outline of their role-play proposal. Moderation will consider the request in consultation with the Forum-Based Countries Coordinator.

While players in control of a forum-based country are permitted full control over the political and economic affairs of the country, they are restricted in terms of the cultural background to the descriptions provided in this thread. Like all other countries, forum-based countries are members of the World Congress and may contribute to discussions in the General Assembly as well as seek election to Seat E of the Security Council. In all role-play matters players are expected to respect the established role-play history of a country as far as possible. If there is any doubt then players should conduct Moderation or the Forum-Based Countries Coordinator.

Bazgaristan

Background: Xsampa was previously colonized by Indrala and Indralan (Chinese) has an important linguistic legacy in the country and the descendants of the colonized have taken to calling themselves Xsampan and are often seen as renegade Yingdalan's. The native population, the Bazgari (Afghani) are the majority and in the 48th century took back a majority Bazgari government from the former Kingdom of Xsampa.

Bianjie

Background: Bianjie was colonised by Sekowo and subsequently governed by Luthori and Indrala. The majority of the native population are Bianjie (Manchurian) but the impact of its colonial history means that the Kunikata (Japanese), Indralan (Chinese) and Luthorian (English) languages are all spoken throughout the nation. The lingua franca is Yingdalan (Chinese). Since gaining independence, the country has been governed primarily as a Khanate, a form of absolute monarchy.

Dalibor

Background: Notable for being a world financial (but also criminal) center, Dalibor has a diverse array of native ethnic groups. During the colonial period, it was governed by Indrala and Indralan (Chinese) remains the dominant language in the country.

Hanzen

Background: Hanzen is a former colony of Yingdala and has been heavily influence by Yingdalan (Chinese) culture throughout its history. Since independence it has operated primarily as a monarchy (both absolute and constitutional). The largest ethnic group in the country are the Phra (Thai) people and the Phra (Thai) language is the most commonly spoken language. Despite this there are several notable ethnic minority groups in the country including the Suman (Lao) people and Chon (Khmer) people.

Istapali

Background: Istapali is melting pot of East Dovani cultures, it has Dovani Majatran (African Arab), Kitembo (Swahili), Keobi (Igbo), Orun (Yoruba), Watembo (Somali), Huhoa (Hausa) and Douwu (Chicewa), a former colony of Hulstria. After achieving independence, it has become one of the largest economies in the Third World, governed mostly as a federal presidential republic. In addition to the various native languages spoken throughout the country, Dundorfian (German) retains a prominent position. The Douwu people played a promient role in the formation of the nation and its name reflects as such despite the fact that they form one of the few true minorities in the nation.

Kimlien

Background: A former colony of Indrala, Kimlien is a nation which has been devastated by civil war in the past century. The majority of the population is ethnically Dinh (Vietnamese) and speak the Dinh (Vietnamese) language. Kimlien has a significant colonial legacy, however, and the Indralan (Chinese) language is still prevalent in many parts of the country.

Kurageri

Background: Kurageri is a nation primarily inhabited by the Kuragao or Kitembo (Swahili) people, who speak the Kitembo (Swahili) language. A former colony of Sekowo, it has a Kunihito (Japanese) minority as a result. Since achieving independence, Kurageri has primarily been governed as a presidential republic.

Liore

Since independence, it has been governed in various ways, from presidential republic to military junta, but the Kunikata (Japanese) language remains a notable language used in the country.

Medina

Background: Despite Sekowan colonisation, the native culture of Medina has remained largely intact and is largely influenced from its break from the Vascanian continent. Medinian (Pakistani) people and the Medini (Urdu) language dominate the country, which is notable as being the base for the growth of "colonial nationalism", an ideology which fueled the Dovani War and the growth of the Dovani Union. Since the end of the war, Medina has remained among the most influential and well developed Third World states.

Midway

Background: Midway is a former colony of Seko, ever since the construction of the Midway Canal the nation has played a pivotal role in Dovani economics as a whole. It has remained largely neutral in conflicts and does its best to continue its large financial success. Kunikata (Japanese) remains a widely spoken language alongside Luthorian (English) due to the importance of communication across the dozen or so ethnic groups that call Midway home. There is no clear "majority" ethnicity in Midway but dozens of ethnic communities: Dovani Majatran (African Arab), Kitembo (Swahili), Keobi (Igbo), Orun (Yoruba), Watembo (Somali), Huhoa (Hausa), Yingdalan (Chinese), Pilese (Sri Lankan/Maldivian/Mauritian combo), Phra (Thai), Mava-Neleyan (Indonesian Malay), Nelayan (Javanese) and Kahadean (Sundanese), New Aldurian (Haitian), Tropican (Polynesian), Manmerian (Papuan) and Malgy (Malagasy).

Mina

Background: al-Mina, Majatran for "The Port" was originally colonized by Majatran merchants seeking exports for their goods. The intermingling of Majatrans and natives East Dovanians prompted the modern day ethnic group known as "Dovani Majatran" who are largely Ahmadi and share similar physical characteristics with fellow East Dovani peoples. al-Mina was eventually occupied by Greater Hulstria (later Hulstria and Gao-Soto) and the native Cifutingan people (Formosan people and languages) were used to rule the colony, following a series of conflicts the Dovani Majatran resumed control over the government and the slim minority of Cifutingan people remain in al-Mina but have largely fled to Gao-showan countries. Hulstrian (Austrian German) and Kunikata (Japanese) remain spoken throughout the nation but Dovani Majatran (African Arab) is the official language of the nation.

North Dovani

Background: North Dovani was formerly a colony of Kyoseon (Dankuk/Dranland) and was at one point home to a Draddwyr (Welsh) and Kyo (Korean) minority rule. However, the native Keobi (Igbo) and Huhoa (Hausa) population eventually took back control and a vast majority of the Draddwyr (Welsh) and Kyo (Korean) have returned to their home countries. North Dovani has a history of federal republicanism, it absorbed the former country of Degalogesa after its native Keobi (Igbo) and Huhoa (Hausa) populations voted in a referendum to join North Dovani.

New Alduria

Background: Previously a part of the Luthorian colonial empire, New Alduria is dominated by Pinnois (Haitian) people. Due to significant Canrillaise (French) influence, the most commonly spoken language in the country is Kreyòl Aldurien (Haitian Creole) which is a Canrillaise (French) based creole language. The country has been governed as a parliamentary republic for several centuries since achieving its independence.

New Englia

Background: New Englia has been administered by Kirlawa, Hulstria, Kazulia, Seko and Yingdala at various times across its colonial history. The nation is divided between Kilani (Irish) and Inglian (British) people but the Yingdalan colonial legacy has meant that there is a degree of Yingdalan (Chinese) influence on certain aspects of the country's culture. Minority Inglian (British) rule has been the source of a great deal of controversy throughout the country's past and ethnic divisions persist to this day.

New Verham

Background: New Verham is a post-colonial society which has a diverse citizenry. The Mu-Tze (Mongolian) peoples are the most significant ethnic groups but there is a large degree of cultural syncretism as well as a lasting impact of Vanukuean colonisation. The dominant language in the country is Panuman (Mongolian language) but has significant Vanukeaans (Dutch) and Jelbek (Central Asian mix) minorities.

Noumonde

Background: Formerly colonized by Rildanor, Noumonde is a nation with a strong monarchist tradition. Canrillaise (French) is the dominant language although the native Malgy (Malagasy) population speak the Malgy (Malagasy) language. Luthorian (English) is also spoken by a significant minority of the population due to the country's colonial past.

Ntoto

Background: Ntoto is a culturally diverse country with a mixed political history that has included communal violence. As a former colony of Luthori, the Luthorian (English) language has become dominant as a lingua franca among the country's various ethnic groups. Among the largest of these groups are the Errawa (Bamar), the Ebako (Kongo) people and various Asli (West African) peoples.

Ostland

Background: Formerly a Hulstrian "crownland", Ostland is roughly split between the Kunihito (Japanese) majority in the south and the significant Hulstrian (Austrian) minority in the central and northern regions. Both Kunikata (Japanese) and Dundorfian (German) are spoken primarily by their associated ethnic group. Ethnic tension between the two groups is not uncommon but has been cooled in recent decades by political reforms to grant semi-autonomous status to the Kunihito (Japanese).

Rapa Pile

Background: Rapa Pile is a country with a diverse and multi-ethnic society, having experienced constant migration from throughout Dovani, Temania and Vascania. As a result, there is no single, clearly defined Pilese identity and individuals choose to identify in different ways. Although some will refer to themselves simply as Pilese, others will refer to their family background or emphasise both using terms such as "Raktavani Pilese" or "Esinsundu Pilese".

Pilese (Sinhala) is the most commonly spoken language in the country and arrived on the islands from nearby Vascania millennia ago. Kalam (Tamil), Kunikata (Japanese), Yingdalan (Chinese) and Kitembo (Swahili) are among the other most commonly spoken languages. Rapa Pile is similarly diverse in terms of religion. Daenism (Buddhism) is the largest single religion but there are significant communities adhering to most of the region's major religious traditions.

Statrica

Background: In the past Statrica has been controlled by Dorvik, Deltaria, Lourenne and Zardugal and since independence it has experienced a turbulent political history. Due to civil war and subsequent invasion by Lourenne and Kazulia, the country has struggled to achieve stable governance in the past four centuries. In demographic terms the majority of the population are Asli (West African) peoples while the legacy of colonialism can be seen in the prevalence of the Statrican (Croatian) people along the country's western coastline.

Nsanlosa (formerly Suyu Llaqta)

Background: The indigenous peoples of Suyu Llaqta are diverse, with the Kitembo (Swahili) people being the most notable. Prior to independence, the country was governed by Hulstria and it has a Hulstrian (Austrian) colonial overlay as a result. Since then, it has experienced a number of military coups and generally been governed as an authoritarian one-party state, though there was a period where the country was divided by civil war. Dundorfian (German) is among the nation's most important languages and shares official status alongside Kitembi (Swahili) which is the official de facto language.

Temania

Background: Temania was at various points colonized by Luthori, Alduria and Beiteynu and both Luthorian (English) and Canrillaise (French) remain important languages in the country. The predominant ethnic groups in the country are Mava-Neleyan (Indonesian Malay), Nelayan (Javanese) and Kahadean (Sundanese). Smaller regional ethnic minority communities include New Aldurian (Haitian), Tropican (Polynesian), Manmerian (Papuan) and Mondesian (Malay). Since independence Temania has alternated by republican and monarchist forms of government.

Tropica

Background: Tropica is a former colony of Luthori. The indigenous population is composed primarily of various Tropican (Polynesian) people groups who speak numerous Tropican (Polynesian) languages. In addition, Luthorian (English) remains an important language in terms of matters of governance. Since achieving independence, Tropica has primarily been governed as a parliamentary republic.

Mosir (Utari Mosir)

Background: Previously a colony of Greater Hulstria, Mosir's population was previously thought to be largely Utari (Ainu) who speak Kunikata (Japanese), but a groundbreaking nation-wide census and research showed that the nation once housed a prominent Trigunia colony on the nations eastern coast. Following the census in January, 5323 it was discovered that the primary ethnic group are the Belanarodni (Belarussians), the largest and includes the Kezbeler (Kazakh), Akimiz (Uzbek) and Selsayak (Kyrgyz) while the Utari (Ainu) and Hulstrian
(Austrian) remain a small but notable ethnic component. The most common language is spoken is Belanarodni (Belarussian) with Hulstrian (Austrian) being a close second due to lingering colonial influences. In previous centuries the ethnic Hulstrians in the country's military would continually overthrow the nations government but this has become less prominent in the modern era.

Utembo

Background: Utembo was colonised by Indrala for a significant period of time and Indralan (Chinese) remains an important language in the country as a result. The country was also controlled by Lourenne but the lasting impact of this has been less significant. Among the native population, the Xsampan (Tibetan) people are the largest group and the Xsampan (Tibetan) language is the most commonly spoken throughout Utembo.

Vascania

Background: Vascania is composed of the entire Vascanian continent including the island of Kayal. For several centuries, the continent was divided between two separate states, Vanakalam and Kalkalistan, however the two were united in a series of conflicts known as the Vascanian Wars in the 45th century. In cultural terms, Vascania is among the most diverse countries in the world and is home to dozens of ethnic groups and languages. Broadly the population can be divided between Kalkali (Indo-Aryan) groups in the southern regions and Vanashishu (Dravidian) peoples in the north.

Each of the country's thirteen states has its own official language but Rajutti (Hindi) and Kalam (Tamil) are the most widely spoken among the overall population. Rajavanshi (Gujarati), Utsari (Bengali), Khoni (Sindhi), Samanari (Marathi) and Bhapori (Kashmiri) are among the other notable languages, each having tens of millions of native speakers in their own right. Luthorian (English) was previously widely spoken in Vascania but has become taboo due to its association with Luthorian imperialism and colonial rule.

Sundarat Dharma (fictional fusion of Buddhism and Hinduism) is the national religion of Vascania and originated in the region through a combination of traditional beliefs, Geraja (Hinduism) and Daenism (Buddhism). Although developing in ancient Vascania, the religion in its modern from was born in the past two thousand years and has become commonly associated with Vascanian national identity.
