Kalistan balks at Trigunia's ProposalKaliburg, Ananto
May 17, 4113With the clock ticking, talks between Trigunian representative Baron Arseniy Denisov and Kalistan for C Ambassadors ended inconclusively. Several outstanding issues, such as overwhelming support for Hutori in the world, Trigunia's friendliness to Vanuku, with whom Kalistan has an ancient and unresolved casus belli over the assassination of its first Brethrenist President, and Kalistan's perceived strategic closeness with Trigunian-rival Indrala doomed the talks to a polite farewell for the Trigunian Ambassadors.
Said Lead Ambassador Machado,
"While we appreciated the offers that Trigunia put forward in an attempt to seek a switch of endorsement, at the end of the day, nothing they offered would really have made a difference. For example, Trigunia couldn't match Hutori's nomination count, and a switch of Kalistan to Trigunia would not have made a difference one way or another in the outcome of the Seat D race. If the goal of getting Kalistan to switch was to give other nation's clearance to switch away from Hutori as well, our Trigunian colleagues greatly overestimated Kalistan's influence on the world. Our success in this election has a lot more to do with the dedication of my team to the cause than any sort of soft power or influence that we have over the process. Kalistan is greatly blessed to have so much support, but we do not have control of how others vote. As an example, when we switched to Hawu Mumenhes, only two other countries responded to our invitation to switch: One of those bills was soundly defeated by a conservative majority, and the other one can't seem to get any legislative votes one way or another on the subject. While we are flattered by Trigunian presumptions as to our position in the world, unfortunately, we couldn't possibly live up to them if we tried."
At the end of the day, Machado and the other Ambassadors thanked the Baron for his visit, and asked him to relay to Trigunia that Kalistan is looking for supporters of the ODEN treaty. "As we do not currently have diplomatic staff in Trigunia, we would appreciate the Ambassador breaching the subject with the Tsar. But of course, we ask as one nation to another. Perhaps Trigunia can figure out a way to move this treaty through the Duma, sooner, rather than later."
