In Dolgavian it is called Uguns kalns (Fire Mountain) this large composite volcano in 60 miles from Noversk has been asleep for nearly 200 years. Its last activity was when it built Ole's Dome an eruption cycle that lasted 15 years in which it explodid dacitic pumice across Western Dolgavia. However this ended in 4512 and has been quiet ever since. Pervious eruptions show debris flows now covered up by the outskirts of Noverisk.

This all ended today when the dormant volcano jolted back to life with a 5.7 magnitude earthquake. This was then followed by a dozen smaller tremors all coming from the same area under Sornberg.

Geologist Marwin Rohrbach from the Miķelsons Institute for Geology in Akiums explains what is happening in an interview today

Dolgavia has over 20 volcanoes that have eruptied in the last 1,000 years. This in Geologic time is nothing. Most of them like Sornberg have active magma chambers. These earthquakes clearly show that Magma is moving under Sornberg. This group of earthquakes is what Geologists call an "earthquake swarm". This usually is a precursor to volcanic activity. We see volcanoes active in Dovani and other places such as Verona and Solentia but we have to remind ourselves that our ecosystem is harnessed and shaped by volcanoes. We have had several volcanoes in Dolgavia like Mt. Vecpuiši and Mt. Sals that have been continually active throughout even modern times. They are constantly venting steam and erupting small amounts of steam and ash. However this development is really serious because this volcano unlike the aforementioned is near a major population center and notorious for large violent eruptions. We will be adding 3 more seismographs up on Sornberg so that we can keep a close eye on its activity.

The 14,891foot mountain (4538 meters) is the tallest mountain in Dolgavia and the most dangerous. The towns of Stuttenberg, Sūnasgrad and Noverisk are all either entirely or partially built on previous lava plows from former eruptive periods. However scientists are still saying that it is very unlikely that Sornberg generates a major eruption soon.

After spending most of a year relatively quiet with sporadic seismic activity. Mt. Sornberg has awakened. Seismologists detected a 4.4 magnitude earthquake and people began to report sightings of a small eruption. It would let off steam for 6 hours before it would cease, however during this time earthquakes shook the volcano with over 400 in a 2 hour period. The Miķelsons Institute for Geology set up 12 more seismic monitoring stations around Sornberg the next day as people around the mountain were evacuated due to avalanche risks. The Governer of Lirath Ursula Mecklenburg also talked with local authorities and the local police to barricade roads leading towards the volcano and have told people downstream of the volcano to be ready to move out

The Governer said

We are taking this very seriously. Scientists are being too cautious. They can sit back and watch the eruption but my job is to protect my citizens. We may be taking too much action but I will say that It is better to be safe then sorry.

The Red Zone will extend 30 miles from the volcano and the blue zone will extend 25 miles beyond. The city of Noversk is in a action stage where citizens are being asked to prepare for immediate evacuation.

Dolgavia to Counter Kalistani Aggression-Bolster Naval Escort Capabilities

Minister of Defense Ilmo Aasmae unveiled a new plan to counter Kalistani piracy of Dolgavian shipping with two new classes of warships The Astoņkāji Class Escort Ship and the Lipmaa Class Corvette. Also the Dolgavian Navy has been ordered to escort all Dolgavian and foreign shipping in Dolgavian waters and elsewhere. These actions are in response to Kalistan's legalized piracy act where armed ships are taking out international shipping and no country is safe from it. The Defense minister has also cancelled the proposed Gun cruisers and the hull of the lead ship in that class is being scrapped and being reused for the new Corvette class.

Prime Minister Marika Pihlak approved the plan by saying

This act of piracy that the Kalistani government is encouraging is flat out dangerous to the international community. We are a sovereign nation with the responsibility of protecting our citizens. We will not have our citizens threatened. This is a disgrace and must be stopped. We are warning Kalistan here and now. If your pirates try to mess with our shipping we will wipe them out of existence.

The Lipmaa Class Corvette will have ship to ship missiles and anti-submarine capabilities. The Navy is planning to make 4 of these and they will be completed in 2 years.

The Astoņkāji Class Escort Ship will be capable of launching harpoons, torpedoes and machine guns to stop smaller vessels. The navy is planning to make 10 of these over the next 5 years.

The Department of Defense has also issued warnings to all Dolgavian shipping and they have begun to start a convoy system for all Dolgavian ships traveling near Dolgavian waters. Also the Department of Defense has also given permission for any Dolgavian vessel to fire upon potential pirates.

The Prime Minister spoke before Both Houses of Parliament Today and her Message was spread to other countries as she spoke out against Kalistani aggression.

Mr. Speaker

As you are well aware of the aggression shown by Kalistan has been toxic. I will address this and address the Kalistani Government as well. A respected and well established member of the international community and a security council member is getting threatened by a regime that is paranoid and scared. I will say Mr. Speaker that they are purposely trying to instigate conflict. After peace was signed that ended the straight conflict, Kalistan would build up its defenses and try to defend itself, from what threat? The conflict is over. You got what you want peace??? At the time I had the feeling that they were preparing to counter Lodamun aggression which was an issue but they took a shot at Lourenne. This came out of left field, I and several other leaders are baffled by this kind of warmongering. This is plainly uncalled for and is a lose-lose situation for Kalistan. You are throwing punches at one of Terra's largest economies, one of Terra's largest militarizes. What can you do in retaliation??? Feed them Weed Brownies and make them so high that you actually do something to them??? Also what is the meaning of this aggression? They did nothing to you... Everything has been in response to your actions. You have caused escalation after escalation and you blame everyone else (A classic Leftist Trick may I add). To tell the truth these kinds of actions should not be taking place especially for a Security Council Member. The SC is supposed to work together, not fight each other and lash out against each other. This kind of behavior is childish and flat our dumb. To think that a SC member is doing this to a fellow SC member is baffling...

I will also make the point that we stand with our ally and trade partner Lourenne. They are being pushed to the brink of war mind you by a regime that wants to keep pushing their luck. They are like a 12 year old when their Mommy tells them to do something. They think "How much can I get away with this time". "How about this time". Eventually they will tick them off so badly that they will get sanctions and maybe God forbid conflict. If this happens I will not be aiding Kalistan. They brought this upon themselves... This attempt to try to militarize should be frankly ignored. Their economy run off of pot heads can't create missile destroyers on their own. We have the infrastructure for this and we still can't even add any more missile destroyers to our fleet. This regime in Kalistan is sadly out of control. This saddens me because I was with Prime Minister Lipmaa when he visited Mr. Cohen in Kalistan several years ago and we had a promising trade future. This has come crashing down and let me say this doesn't hurt our economy. Kalistan can be replaced with Dorvik and Kazulian and Hulstrian and Lourennian goods. Kalistan doesn't have this luxury.

Poking the bear long enough will wake him up as the analogy goes. Kalistan I beg of you stop poking powers you stand no chance of doing anything against. For your own safety if you want to stay out of trouble Don't Cause It!!! No one believes your riff raff about Dovani causing all the trouble when this time the only culprits are yourselves. Just because most of the well developed and developing nations in Terra do not follow your Socialist Utopia. If you disagree with someone don't start creating piracy, don't start threatening and sending out ridiculous radio broadcasts. If you want to change things us diplomacy like the rest of the civilized world. All of this is really causing a rift that you can only be blamed for. Mt. Sornberg Minutes into the Eruption

Mt. Sornberg finally blew its top this morning at 8:38 AM when a 5.7 magnitude earthquake caused a collapse of Sornberg's existing crater. This caused the magma underneath to be exposed. The volcano would then begin a 13 hour eruption. The blast would run down the sides of Sornberg and melted its massive glacier ice pack. The eruption went an ash cloud that was 75km wide rose to around 80,000 feet in the sky. The Island of Kizon is completely in darkness as ash has blocked out the sun. The ash is headed directly towards the Lodamun as the Dolgavian Government has grounded all flights on Kizon and Western Dolgavia.

The melted ice packs were catastrophic. Pyroclastic flows of boiling water, ash and mud streamed down the Hirved River in Lirath. Both the North Fork and South Dams had previously released water and the river levels were low but this did not stop the rush of mud from rushing down into Noversk. Still rescuers are searching the rubble of North East Noversk as houses, businesses and everything was flattened or washed down stream. Over 235 people are already dead and over 600 some still missing as scientists try to figure out where their sensors went wrong.

The Prime Minister has officially declared a State of Emergency and scrambled to get helicopters over the destroyed suburbs of Dolgavia's Second Largest City. The Dolgavian military has also been working around the clock to find temporary housing for thousands of people who escaped Noversk.

The speed of the ash and water rushing down was underestimated and we really failed to bring this into account. Our main concern was the ask and pyroclastic flows, well boiling water is a concern we should have known about too.

I now promise the people of Dolgavia that it will be my mission to make Dolgavia the leading country in Volcanic and Tectonic Research so this does not happen again. From this point forward the Dolgavian Government is merging with Miķelsons Institute for Geology to create the Dolgavian Department of Geology. Will will put more seismographs on every potential active volcano. Rebuilding and recovering will take a long time but for now we will do everything we can to make Noversk a thriving city once again. Dolgavia Disbands Nationalization of Arms Dealers and Opens up Opportunists for Private Arms Dealers

The end of September marks the cut off date the the Dolgavian Government opens up the legalization of Private Arms Dealers. Before this all firearms related companies were government owned and operated. Only 4 gun stores existed throughout Dolgavia in 4 of the largest cities including Aikums. The right to bear arms is protected under the Dolgavian constitution however private selling of them was not. This all changed as Measure 423 abolished the Nationalization of Gun Stores and opened the gates for a new business to take off in Dolgavia.

One of the many private arms dealers is Swanson's Arms Company which will specialize in Hunting, Self Defense and Target Shooting Firearms. The owner Johann Swanson is pleased with this new bill and said in a short interview

The Dolgavian Government is finally doing what it's citizens have been asking for, for years. Finally we can be trusted to make our own firearms and to sell domestic and foreign weapons. This will give people in smaller cities and communities access to weapons that are needed for hunting and self defense. I am looking to the future where Dolgavia will be a safe haven of law abiding gun owning citizens.

Other companies are using this new opportunity to expand their business. TPP Fireworks company is now in the process of starting a new branch of the company devoted to making ammunition for many calibers of weapons. The CEO Albert Ruhan said in another interview

This company has been making fireworks for over 200 years now. We are the largest Dolgavian Fireworks producer. We are expanding into ammunition because we constantly work with gunpowder and we must get the exact proportions right for each firework to work properly. The same is true for ammunition. I feel that this is a new beginning for my company and I look forward to the future, it is very bright.

As the last decade has seen a 15% increase in gun sales this decade will see a potential spike as firearms not only are more accessible now but will also be cheaper for the normal blue collar workers and farmers alike. These gun stores will be able to sell customers any legal weapon with limited background checks and no registration. These new de regulations mark a new beginning of gun rights in Dolgavia

SMS Lipmaa Launches with Fanfare and a Speech from the Former PM

The new Fast Patrol Vessel SMS Lipmaa has officially been christened and was launched at the newly built König Heinrich Naval Base. The new vessel will spend 2 months doing sea trials to test several things including speed, maneuverability and sturdiness. The new vessel was named after the Former Prime Minister Vilijo Lipmaa who spoke at the launching of the new vessel. In his speech he said

I am so honored that Dolgavia has appreciated my service to the country so much that they named the newest class of Dolgavian ships after me. When I entered the position of Prime Minister I would have never thought that this could happen. I would like to thank my successor and her cabinet for finishing off some things that I wanted to finish but couldn't. As I stand here seeing this ship that has been built using Dolgvian steel, Dolgavian equipment and Dolgavian workers I marvel everyday how slowly but surely our country is changing from one that was poverty ridden and divided to a new unified state that is promoting peace and liberty across Terra. All I have to say is keep it up Dolgavians! You are doing such a good job.

Noversk Begins the Process of Rebuilding

The city of Noversk is rebuilding and clearing the ash and mud after the catastrophic Volcanic Eruption of Mt. Sornberg. The two dams upstream of the city were not harmed from the eruption and kept the water levels of the river from completely destroying the city. The dams are now letting little amounts of water out as companies work to build a new embankment to keep any future mud flows out of the city.

Buildings are being rebuilt along with the City Hall which were destroyed in the mud flows. 6 different contractor companies are also rebuilding destroyed rail systems, roadways and a partial section of the Konigsbahn which all were severely damaged in the mud flows. Guntris Salmiņš the director of rebuilding and salvage operations was interviewed during the first days of the reconstruction. He outlined the plan of the city and governments.

Interviewer: So what are the your priorities during this process?
Salminš: Well right now we are trying to figure out the full extent of the damage. The downtown sky rise sector thankfully was not hurt and escaped catastrophic damage. The main sectors we are working on right now is increased infrastructure along the Hirved River. Embankments and Retaining walls will keep future mudflows from damaging Noversk again. Some of these embankments are 20 feet high and we have. The City Hall unfortunately was leveled but we are planning a new state of the art facility. The cities roads will also be improved and widened to prevent traffic lockups and keep traffic flow smooth. We are also building earthquake proof apartment complexes to give displaced families a new place to stay and we are also going to put lots of money into upgrading surviving infrastructure. Be thankful though that the airport and other essential parts of Noversk survived. This could have been way, way worse.
Interviewer: When do you think this project will be finished?
Salminš: Things like the embankment and such have the highest priority. Along with housing these projects will be finished very quickly. However new roads systems and improvement of infrastructure will take a few years to complete. We are preoccupied with trying to bring life back to this city. We need to get displaced people a new home and keep the city out of danger. Once that is done then we can work on modernization of the city itself.

Workers are already several months in and already 40% done with the retaining walls and embankments. With work continuing and making solid progress life is starting to resemble normalcy. Mt. Sornberg has also gone back to normal as its activity is slowing down. Only 4 earthquakes were reported last week and the least since it started to produce earthquakes almost 3 years ago.

Noversk Finishes Rebuilding Project- Dolgavian Engineers Praised for Good Work by Prime Minister

Finally the City of Noversk's rebuilding project is complete. After many years of work the city is prepared and ready for future volcanic activity. The Prime Minister visited the city earlier in the month when the projects were being finished. The city is now going to be revitalized further to make sure that it is improved from it's pre-eruption conditions. The homeless camps were shut down and all displaced people are in housing.

The mayor of the city said this

We have stepped up to this challenge and we have done great things. What we accomplished was truly spectacular. We have come up from the muddy depths and the city is once again great. This time of Sornberg strikes we are ready and this city will not be harmed.

The Long Standing Prime Minister of Dolgavia Marika Pihlak announced sanctions today in a radio interview on Dolgavia's former ally Hulstria. This comes after a Communist government has swept over the nation and taken control of it's government. She warned the dangers of Communism and Dolgavia's history being a state of the former Communist Superpower lead by Trigunia. The PM also discussed plans of having closer ties to Lourenne as both countries wish to climb into positions of global power. Dolgavia for the first time and bring Lourenne back to greatness. The Prime Minister also disclosed information about start of some nuclear technology research. This she hopes will lead to possible nuclear power plants in the future. She also discussed her recent decision to close Dolgavia's borders saying that

We still do not know how widespread this disease is. We must protect outselves from it and to do that we need to close our borders.
